Question:

Slightly sunken soft spot?

My son is 9 weeks old. Tonight, I noticed his soft spot on the top of his head is sunken slightly. I've never felt it like that before. I know it could mean he's dehydrated, but he's peeing normally, eating normally, and seems fine. We were at the shore today, and it was hot, so I'm thinking that could be the cause.

I am going to call his doctor first thing in the morning, but just wondering how do you rehydrate a 9 week old? He hasn't consumed anything but breast milk and formula ever.

  1. Just out of curiosity, how are his BM's?  My son had problems and didn't have a normal soft spot until the issues were taken care of.  He was having enough wet diapers and eating normally and was very happy.

Hope you have good doctors.  It took me FOREVER (it seems) to find a good one.

  2.   Breast milk is all that baby needs for complete nourishment, for many months yet.

Don't worry about the soft spot being lower, that is ok

also.  If you watch him closely, you will even see that

the softspot will pulsate just like his heartbeat sometimes.

  3. breastmilk will rehydrate him.

  4. I could always tell when my son was dehydrated (esp. after a hot summer day) by looking at his soft spot.  Breastmilk is the best thing for him.

  5. Normal.

Wait til you start to see it "pulsing" with his heartbeat!  eeeep, that always irked me!

  6. my girls soft spots were always like that so I don't really know what to tell you. if he's peeing and drinking normally then he's not dehydrated.
