Question:

Slighty Bent Skis?

by  |  earlier

I ski with my school in the winter on a groomed hill and would consider myself an intermediate skiier. I have a pair of Atomic - minx skis. They are slighty bent in the middle near the binding and when placed against each other dont sit flat like they used to.

When I place my weight on the skis they flatten out .. but Im not sure if i should be concerned or leave them alone

any thoughts ?

  1. Put them together base to base, there should be a gap (camber) of about 2 cm right under the bindings. This helps distribute your weight along the full length of the ski. If the gap is missing or not equal in each ski, it's broken and should be replaced.  The  same test should be applied with the ski pair held tight together and the bends should be identical in a smooth curve.  If not, it's broken.

  2. if its just a slight bend and both skis have it, thats called camber and its normal, dont worry about it

  3. When you set a ski flat on the floor, the tip and tail should touch the floor and the center of the ski should be curved up into the air a little bit.  That is the camber of the ski, and is what makes it lively and responsive when you ski on it.  they're not bent.  If this is what you're describing then it means the skis still have a lot of life left in them!

  4. You should maybe check them out. But it depends about the severety. If it's just a small dent, that i can tell you that all skiis get that after going of jumps, getting wipe outs, and all,

But if it's noticeable from 2-3 meters away, get it check out by a pro.
