Sligo’s surface no concern for Dare to Doubt in Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Connacht Oaks Fillies Handicap
A few runners may struggle on Sligo’s soft surface, but there are no such worries for Dare to Doubt in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Connacht Oaks Fillies Handicap, taking place on Wednesday, August 8th.
The 8-year-old has not yet translated her hurdling ability to the Flat, but another can be given to her. The veteran mare was pretty impressive on her previous two starts. The spectators at Cork saw her demonstrating a wonderful show under Ruby Walsh.
In the Dermot Casey Tree Care Hurdle, she travelled easily to lead well before the wire. A consistent effort helped her notch up the first place by nine lengths. After such an outstanding effort, she continued her good work at Ballinrobe, but luck probably
was not on her side last time.
In the hands of Pat Smullen, the W. P. Mullins-trained ran very well in the beginning, but made no impression on the winner inside the final furlong. As a result, the 6-4 favourite missed the crown by 1¾ lengths.
After a couple of fine trips, the mare’s confidence is at a high. So, she is expected to face no trouble in crushing the rest of the crew today. According to the preset plan, the 1-mile 4-furlong meeting will be kicked off at 19:10 GMT. The ultimate champion
will leave the field with a handsome cash prize worth €19,500.
Livia Galilei looks to be the main danger to Dare to Doubt. The 3-year-old has been unlucky since opening her account at Curragh in June. J. S. Bolger’s charge was second to Balrath Hope in the European Breeders Fund Coolmore Stud Ulster Oaks Fillies Handicap
at Down Royal, before she finished third at Killarney last time. She surely needs an improvement in order to play a major role today.
Negotiate, Kevin Manning’s trainee, hails from an in-form stable, but looks to have plenty on. The conditions are favourable for Jazz Girl, who should make some sort of impact.
There are a few runners with an ability to spring up a surprise, but Dare to Doubt still seems to have the best chance. We wish the best of luck to all the runners.
