Question:

Slimming massage..anybody had it/heard of them?

A Chinese salon in London recently started advertising their slimming massages. When I asked them about it they said that they work the skin so it burns calories and lets out bad toxins. I asked if it was relaxing and they made the impression that it wasn't. They said that the pressure was harder than a regular massage..

Anybody heard of this or had it done? If so, is this safe/does it hurt?

  1. It sounds similar to "endermologie" massage, which is the only US approved cellulite treatment.

Denise Austin (exercise video personality) uses it, as do most models & stars.  Typically $100/session, with 10 recommended ($$$$).

How it works-  massaging  the skin on top of the muscle by a vacuuming/folding/rolling action stimulates a release of toxins & water stored in fat cells.  You are only losing water, it takes 2-3 sessions to see a difference- and then it is only temporary.  If you stop the sessions, it comes back within weeks.

If they do it by hand - and you bruise easily - it is likely to cause plenty of bruising!

  2. It definitely doesn't sound safe.
