Question:

Slimy Cat-It Water Fountain?

I recently bought the Medium Cat-It Water Fountain for cats for my little monster and I love it! The only thing that I would like to change on it may be changed. I change/refill the dome and clean everything as well about once a week. Lately, I have had to clean it about twice a week because I keep starting to feel a slimy residue on the surfaces that have water contacts. What can I do to keep this from happening so much?

And yes, I use the filters that are recommended for this fountain and change them every month or so.

  1. do you have hard water? if you have a well, it might be minerals in the water. your town should have a place you can bring your water to for a test. they will recommend treatments, if it needs any.

most of us have to add salt or it eats the plumbing.

  2. I have the same fountain and the same exact thing has been happening to me.  I don't know if it is because it is summer time or what... I even tried using spring water and the slime still develops.  It is obviously from the cats saliva but still, it is very annoying!

  3. It's coming from the water you are using in it.

I fill my cats Big Dog Drinkwell fountain with *Distilled* water to prevent slim buildup.
