Sloan moves into third place on all-time NBA coaching wins list
Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan soared up the NBA charts, as he masterminded his 2,000th
NBA game at the Target Center on Wednesday night.
That means Sloan moves into third place on the all-time NBA coaching win list with his 1,211th victory, a 112-107 clean sweep for the Utah Jazz over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Jerry surpassed Pat Riley, and sits behind Don Nelson (1,335) and Lenny Wilkens (1,332).
However Sloan was quick to downplay the achievement, he said, "I'm more proud of the win. I'm not into numbers and stuff like that. I never have been. I have a great organisation
to work for, which has given me an opportunity to stay here a long time. I am very thankful for that and the coaches I have had to work with. It's not about me; it's more about what we try to do as a staff."
Sloan’s contributions for Utah are unforgettable. He became an assistant coach for the Jazz in 1988, which marked the beginning of his excellent career with Utah. Jerry
Sloan has had a highly successful career, and has coached many high-profile players such as Karl Malone, John Stockton, Jeff Eaton, Carlos Boozer, Andrei Kirilenko, and Deron Williams.
Currently the Utah Jazz are doing quite well, and have one of the highest scoring offenses in the NBA this season. Utah is 10-4 on the road, and 4-0 in road games decided
by very close match-ups of five points or less. If the Jazz can avoid an extended losing streak, they could manage consecutive seasons with a winning record on the road for the first time since the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 seasons
Their victory against the Timberwolves is also memorable for Kelvin Love's performance in which he scored 25 points and had 19 rebounds. It was Love's 19th game with at
least 15 rebounds this season, which is the most by a player in his first 30 games of the season, since Dennis Rodman had 21 in 1992-1993.
