Slop in 1992 ford ranger power steering gear box

Is there a way i can adjust the gear box, there is about 1" of slop at the steering wheel.

The truck has a V6 3.0L engine.

  1. there is an adjustment on top of the gearbox that uses a wrench and allen wrench. But recommend it to a mechanic as too much can cause steering issues, too loose will give the slop you feel now


  2. Make sure everything is tightened down. If it's still loose the gears are worn out.

  3. first check .ball joint. tie rod end.wheel  bearing. steering shaft.

    to ajust best way is give 1/2 turn  try it out if streerin feel hard to turn or dont come back to center  ur got it too tigh
