I don't get to play slots often enough because I have to go out of town to get to a casino. Some time ago they changed all the machines to paper receipts and no coins....what's with that. It takes so much of the fun out of it for me....I liked tha clanking sound when you won or cashed out. How do you all feel about this change? Also, I want to go to Vegas sometime soon....is it the same thing there now too?

  1. The change was a bit of a shock at first, but it's the way more and more places are going.  You can still find some that use coins.

Tickets make more sense, you can carry your ticket from machine to machine, cash them out at automated machines instead of the cashier.  They make sense for the casinos too, they don't need to maintain the coin counters, don't need to order as much coin, and don't need to be filling machines all the time.  Plus, add in the explosion in popularity of multi line penny and nickel machines, and tickets are the way to go.

    You'll get used to it.

  2. It's much easier and cheaper for the casinos to have paper.  Less attendants and time needed to sort out the change. But I agree, it was much more fun hearing the clanking sound of the quarters dropping into your tray.

  3. yea its at most casinos nowdays.. i miss the ole 'cling cling'... looking for more buckets to put all those quarters in.. but its easier and cleaner with the papers. but yes, it was exciting to hear all those coins drop...

  4. I liked the tickets for two reasons:

    1. I don't have to wait for refilling (except the paper is out of stock)

    2. You can easily go on to the next slot without waiting in the queue for cashing in your coins.

In addition i never understood how people can just drop coin by coin in the slot...

  5. Yes, most casinos have paper payouts instead of coins. 1) it is faster for the customer. You don't have to wait for 1,000 quarters to clunk down in the tin. 2) It is cleaner. You don't have to touch all of the dirty coins and try to place them all in those little buckets. And 3) (this reason is most important to casinos), it is a LOT cheaper to give out paper payouts rather than pay a slot attendent $15/hour to walk around paying out people that hit jackpots and have them also refill each machine with coins over and over again.

So, yes, I miss the old days. But casinos have moved onto new more economical ways of payment.
