Slovak Open 2012: Alesia Zaitsava slays Yelyzaveta Zharka to surge into Women’s Singles semi-final
Belarus’ spirited and in-form shuttler Alesia Zaitsava proved her supremacy on court and penetrated into Women’s Singles semi-final after slaying Ukraine’s Yelyzaveta Zharka in the quarter-final battle at Victor Slovak Open 2012 on Saturday, September 8, in Slovakia.
Top seeded Alesia, who remained uncontrollable throughout the championship, continued her staggering performance and surged into the top-four stage after giving a severe lesson to Yelyzaveta who was an un-seeded player in the main draw.
Higher ranked Alesia showed a remarkable progress in the tournament as she remained calm and confident on court and remained successful in registering a comprehensive victory over her lower ranked Ukrainian rival in straight sets with a one-sided score on the board.
On the contrary, the un-seeded Yelyzaveta played to her maximum potential but failed to take a reasonable advantage against the top seeded Alesia and finally bowed down in a lopsided fashion without showing her brilliance.
The incredible Alesia started her campaign in first set in a dominating fashion as she played dominating badminton without facing any trouble and established a reasonable gap at the opening stage.
Powerful smashes coupled with perfect net shots helped Alesia to set up a huge lead until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Alesia remained on track without facing any interruption from her Ukrainian opponent. She dictated Yelyzaveta in all corners of the court and eventually grabbed the opening game in a killing fashion with a 21-12 score on the board.
In the second game, the impressive Alesia again pushed her rival on back foot without showing her any mercy and established a remarkable gap on the board until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, the Ukrainian shuttler tried her best to put up strong show but failed to live up to expectations and remained struggling.
In the meanwhile, Alesia remained focused without dropping her speed and eventually took the set with a 21-12 margin on the board.
Alesia emerged as the winner in this quarter-final contest in a phenomenal fashion as she threshed her rival in straight sets with a crushing margin of 21-12 and 21-12.
