Slovak Open 2012: Darya Samarchants beats Lisa Sjostrom in an epic first round contest
Darya Samarchants, a determined player from Ukraine, showed her elite class on court as she put up superb show in Women’s Singles first round and defeated Sweden’s Lisa Sjostrom at the Victor Slovak Open 2012 on Friday, September 7, in Slovakia.
The young and passionate Darya showed a wonderful determination on court and employed all of her skills to overwhelm her Swedish rival in a spectacular fight that lasted 40 minutes long.
The in-form Darya played at her best in first set but remained unlucky in ending points and lost it. However, she played on a different level in the following both sets and stamped her mark over Lisa in three sets with a reasonable margin.
The Swedish player, on the contrary, put up good show in first set and bagged it with a tight score. However, she failed to push her rival on back foot in the remaining games and bowed down in rubber sets with a close score on the board.
The impressive Ukrainian player employed all of her skills on court and remained close to her rival until the one-minute interval.
After the break, both players remained neck-to-neck without showing any respect for each other. However, it was Darya who could not play positive game in the ending points and lost the set with a 19-21 score on the board.
In the second game, Darya was in fabulous form as she played with remarkable control in her shots and managed a huge gap until the end of first half.
Darya continued pushing her opponent in all areas after the one-minute break and eventually ended up the set with a one-sided 21-9 score on the board.
In the deciding set, Lisa also showed her incredible craft and she did not let her opponent to set up a reasonable lead until the break.
After the break, Darya took over the control by increasing her speed in all areas of the court and remained successful in wrapping up the set by a close 21-19 score on the board.
Darya emerged as victorious in this three-set contest with a tight margin of 19-21, 21-9 and 21-19.
