Slovak Open 2012: Matej Hlinican outshines Mitja Semrov in Men’s Singles qualifying round
Slovakia’s emerging young player Matej Hlinican stretched his winning run on court and advanced into Men’s Singles main round after beating Slovenia’s Mitja Semrov in qualifying round contest at the Victor Slovak Open 2012 in Slovakia, on Thursday, September
6.
The impressive Matej, who entered into the tournament as an un-seeded shuttler, impressed his home crowd by putting up strong show of top class badminton by crushing his higher ranked challenger in a sensational fight.
The underdog Matej remained unable to prove his worth in opening set but found his way back into the battle and took the following games to end up the contest in rubber games with a superb score on the board.
The fourth seeded Slovenian shuttler, in the meanwhile, showed good performance but failed to maintain his incredible run as and ultimately bowed down to Mitja in three games with in just 40 minutes.
Both shuttlers started their run in a positive and aggressive fashion as they played attacking badminton and managed to remain close until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Matej tried his best to dominate the pace of rallies but he failed to put up strong show and lost the opening set with an 18-21 score on the board.
The following game was also spectacular in the following set as they pushed each other in all areas of the court and stayed close until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, the Matej dominated the pace of rallies by increasing his speed in all corners and managed to finish up the set with a reasonable 21-17 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Matej was everywhere on court as he played with tremendous speed and control in his shots which helped him to construct a wonderful gap until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Matej remained on track as he did not lose his focus at any stage and easily wrapped the third set with a stunning score of 21-9.
The underdog Matej managed to end up the winning run of Mitja in three games with a superb 18-21, 21-17 and 21-9 score on the board.
