Slovak Open 2012: Petr Jelinek struggles hard to penetrate into Men’s Singles main round
Czech Republic’s talented shuttler Petr Jelinek had to dig into his arsenal to penetrate into Men’s Singles main round as he narrowly defeated his lower ranked opponent Mohmed Misbun Misbun Shawal of Malaysia in the qualifying round contest at Victor Slovak
Open 2012 in Slovakia, on Thursday, September 6.
The top seeded Petr, who showed up a tremendous performance in all of his previous matches in qualifying round, had to put in extra effort to overpower his impressive Malaysian opponent in a tight fashion.
The higher ranked Petr did not face any considerable trouble in the opening set but failed to maintain his upper hand in the second game. However, he employed all of his skills in the final set and managed to outshine his rival in three games with a tight
margin on the board.
On the contrary, the un-seeded Mohmed Misbun played remarkable badminton all the way but he remained unlucky in the concluding points of third set and eventually crashed out by losing to his higher ranked challenger with a respectable score.
The first game went according to the expectations of the crowd as the top seeded Petr played dominating badminton without facing any problem from his opponent and took a reasonable lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Petr executed safe shots while remaining quick in all areas and ultimately won the first set with a convincing score of 21-15.
The following game was completely different as the Malaysian shuttler showed his brilliance this time by playing attacking badminton. He took a stunning lead against Petr until the end of first half.
After the break, Petr employed all of his skills but failed to stop the progress of Mohmed Misbun and lost the game with a 16-21 score on the board.
The deciding game was close in the opening half as both shuttlers played to their best speed and employed everything they had to take over the charge of rallies.
In the concluding half of final set, Petr showed his impressive craft in the concluding points and took the game with a 21-17 score on the board.
Petr overpowered Mohmed Misbun in three games with a thrilling margin of 21-15, 16-21 and 21-17.
