Slovakia announce final Fifa World Cup squad
Liverpool defender Martin Škrtel and Manchester City’s Vladimír Weiss have both been named in Slovakia’s final 23 man squad for their first ever World Cup, a squad picked by coach Vladimír Weiss Snr.
Chelsea’s Miroslav Stoch, West Bromwich Albion’s Marek Čech and Dundee United goalkeeper Dušan Perniš have also made the cut, as have several players who had been injury doubts for the finals, including Škrtel, Beşiktaş striker Filip Hološko and Lille forward Robert Vittek.
The squad is captained by 22-year-old Napoli midfielder Marel Hamšik, and will play one more friendly at home to Costa Rica on Saturday before departing for South Africa, where they will face New Zealand, Paraguay and Italy in Group F.
