Slovakia beats Tunisia by 3-0 in pool play of FIVB Junior World Championships - Volleyball
The FIVB Junior World Championships have started off in Trujilo, Peru on July 23rd as the first match of Pool A took place between Slovakia and Tunisia. It did not take long for the Slovakian team to comeout on top as they completed a clean sweep. Not only
did the Slovakians win the match in three back to back sets, they did so in decisive fashion at 25-15, 25-10 and 25-14.
The head coach of the Slovakian team, Rojko Marek, made the following comments at the press conference after the match: "The girls were nervous when they started the match but after each set we improved. Tunisia, did a great job and we are happy we won in
our first match in this competition. It is our first match, and it was very difficult. We also faced some problems with the fact that we arrive to Trujillo very late yesterday and the team had not many hours to sleep. I think we really can do better and tomorrow
we have another chance to win a match in the World Championship.”
The first set of the match saw both teams come out strong but Tunisia was seen to be in a better position as they scored the first three points of the game while the Slovakian team took some time coming into form. However, once the Slovakians found their
stride, they were able to take the lead at 6-5 and extend the advantage. Tunisia tried to close in the gap but Slovakia proved to be the better team as they finished off the set at 25-15.
Having won the opening set of the game on a high note, the Slovakian team started off the second set by tallying seven of the first eight points. The Tunisian side could not do much to stop the Slovakians from extending their lead by 15 points and winning
the second set at 25-10.
The loss of the first two sets of the game in such a relentless manner instilled doubts in the Tunisian team and they could not pull themselves together in the third set. The Slovakians did not flinch and had all the confidence of a winning team as they
gradually marched on to take the third and final set of the game at 25-14.
Next in line for the Slovakian team is a match against the Egyptian squad that is going to take place later today. On the other hand, the Tunisian team is going to be playing with the Peruvians.
