Slovakia sweeps Egypt in second round of FIVB Girls Youth World Championship
Slovakia was able to redeem itself on the second day of the FIVB Girls Youth World Championship by making a clean sweep over Egypt after having suffered a loss by the Americans in the second round of the championships. The Pool G match among the two teams
was played at the Ankara Arena Hall in Ankara, Turkey on August 17.
Even though the Egyptians lost the match to the Slovakians in a clean sweep, they put on a commendable show of volleyball skill and put up a challenge for the Slovakians in each of the three sets of the match. The first set remained tight until the very
end when the Slovakians were able to pull up ahead and bag a win. Similarly, the second set of closely contested with the Egyptians giving way in the end. The third set saw less steam in the Egyptian side as Slovakia had a relatively easy job of winning it.
By the time that the match had ended, the final set scores stood at the following figures: 25-21, 25-20 and 25-19.
The Slovakian coach Eva Kosekova expressed herself by giving the following statements: “It was an important match for us. We play just as we want today. We make less mistakes then Egypt so we win. Egypt played a good match today and even they were better
than us in many moments.''
Whereas the coach of the Egyptian squad, Ahmed Mohamed, shared his feelings in the following manner: ''Slovakia team play very well today. We couldn't spike well and we couldn't manage to end each set even when we were ahead. I congratulate the Slovakian
team and I hope we will be better in the next match.''
Egypt took the lead early on in the opening set of the game at 5-3 but the Slovakians soon tied the match at 7-7. The first technical time out came with the Egyptians leading at 8-7 that they were able to extend till the second technical time out at 16-15.
The Slovakians were able to tie the match yet again at 19-19 after which they pushed past the Egyptians to bag a win at 25-21.
The first technical time out of the second set saw the Slovakians leading at 8-3 but the Egyptians did not let them get too far and equalised the score at 12-12. The two teams stayed close after that but Slovakia pulled up ahead to secure the second set
at 25-20.
The third set brought the lead to Slovakia at the first technical time out at 8-5 which they were able to extend till 13-11. It was only a matter of time after that for Slovakia to earn a win at 25-19.
The Slovakians have been able to improve their record in the second round of the tournament to show one win as well as one defeat. On the other hand, the Egyptians have yet to win a match and are cradling two defeats.
