Slovenia International 2012: Tomalova Katerina, Sarka Krizkova tread into quarter-finals
Czech Republic’s Tomalova Katerina and Sarka Krizkova surged into quarter-finals of Women’s Doubles event in FZ Forza Slovenia International on May 11, 2012.
They beat the twosome of Kodric Tina-Polc Urska from Slovenia by putting decisive figures of 19-21, 21-19 and 21-19 after an exhausting of effort of 47 minutes.
However, it was not a smooth ride for victorious duo as the local shuttlers also exhibited prime class badminton skills in three sets and walked tall despite losing this pre quarter-final tussle.
The Slovenian couple Tina-Urska hammered their higher ranked challengers straight away in very first game of the match.
They opened their marathon in perfect manner by clinching few quick points and gained a notable advantage. They made the most out of this immediate lead and kept their rivals under pressure until the interval.
At mid-game break, they were standing at a comfortable position of 11 points which really boosted their confidence.
After half time, the opposing team Katerina-Krizkova anchored the game and then narrowed the gap by accelerating their speed but the chase was severely damaged in final stage when the native shuttlers reinstated their dominance with some continuous rallies.
This opening segment of an epic encounter ended with tight yet significant margin of 19-21 in Slovenia’s favour.
The following game was a replay of previous one but in reverse manner as the Czech ladies bagged second set with same score.
Katerina-Krizkova, duo is also ranked four in this tournament, showed a strong character after an early loss and dazzled their opponents with a lustrous performance.
In first half of the set, both teams displayed great fighting spirit and did not allow each other to get into commanding position.
After the interval, they remained close for some time but then the twosome of Katerina and Krizkova converted an iffy start into a favourable ending by clinching final two points in 21-19 total.
The strong crowd stayed patient and when the decider began, they were thoroughly entertained as both contenders made final set a memorable contest.
They remained neck-to-neck until game point situation however the Women’s Doubles experts of Czech Republic struck hard when it mattered and sealed the victory with 21-19 score on the board.
