Slovenia International: Nicole Schaller overwhelms Monika Szoke in Women’s Singles first round
Switzerland’s Nicole Schaller started her campaign in a productive manner as she defeated Hungary’s Monika Szoke in Women’s Singles first round at Slovenia International 2012 at Medvode, Slovenia, on Friday, May 11.
Schaller, who was third seed in Women’s Singles draw of the championship, had to dig into her reserves to overpower her talented opponent in a rubber set competition.
The higher ranked Swiss lady played with remarkable aggression and managed to overpower Szoke in three games by taking 42 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Monika played tremendous game in the opening set and took it. But she failed to continue her superb performance in the following games and lost the match in three sets.
In the opening set, Schaller could not dominate the pace in opening rallies and remained struggling in the court.
In the meanwhile, the Hungarian lady played composed game and took a small lead until the mid-game break.
After the interval, Schaller tried to reduce the deficit but failed to bridge the gap as her lower ranked opponent was quicker in taking the bird.
The Swiss lady lost the opening game with a comfortable difference of 16-21.
In the second game, Schaller played with superb strategy as she controlled the pace by playing aggressive badminton. Until the one-minute interval, Schaller was leading the set with a huge margin.
After the break, the higher ranked Schaller remained positive and she did not show any mercy to Szoke and wrapped up the set with a one-sided score of 21-6.
In the deciding game, Schaller continued her winning performance in the match by keeping an upper-hand over her rival and managed to take a convincing lead until the break.
After the one-minute interval in the final set, Monika tried to play positive game but she failed to break the rhythm of her higher ranked Swiss opponent.
In the meanwhile, Schaller remained on track in the game and she did not take much time in wrapping it up with a thrashing margin of 21-13.
Schaller won this opening round contest in an inspiring fashion by a superb 16-21, 21-6 and 21-13 score on the board.
