Slovenian Aljaz Bedene through to the finals of 2011 Barletta Open
Wildcard entrant, Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia defeated Lukas Rosol in the semi-final of the 2011 Barletta Open on Saturday night. Bedene took one hour and twenty minutes to outplay his opponent in straight sets, making a place for
himself in the finals of the 2011 ATP Challenger event.
The Slovenian had a notable year of 2009 which he took off in a very vying fashion. He won five ATP Future event titles in a row. This is considered to be his legendary achievement throughout his tennis career.
Looking into the match stats, it was held that the final set was more combative in nature as oppose to the opening set although both were easy wins for Bedene as he accomplished them in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 with no difficulty.
Bedene with an aggressive approach towards the first set delivered 52 per cent of first serves. As luck would have it, the first serves conversion rate the Slovenian struck with was 79 per cent. In addition to this, he saved 100
per cent break point opportunities which showed his great presence of mind as he made the 25 year old run hard every corner. Rosol on the other hand, committed 2 double faults and only 71 per cent of his first serves went in. Moreover, he only saved 50 per
cent of break points on first serves which had a little worth in contrast to his opponent’s 100 percent. The differentiating factor between the contestants was their break points so ultimately Bedene clinched that first set very easily with a 6-3 score line.
Bedene kept his leading form in the final set with the help of her 100 per cent breakpoint opportunities in return; he clutched the final set with a 7-5 score. The world number 131, Rosol delivered 2 aces, 71 per cent first serves
and converted the equal figure in conversion but unluckily he couldn’t the catch the motivated Slovenian. Bedene had an amazing winning percentage of 81 per cent as opposed to Czech’s 71 per cent and 70 per cent respectively in total.
Bedene will next face Filippo Volandri of Italy in the Finals of the tournament. Undoubtedly, ousting a player 357 ranks higher than him would surely boost his self-esteem and confidence.
The Slovenian made it through to the semi-finals after defeating Alessio di Mauro of Italy in straight sets. He was banned by the ATP Tour for nine month because he was found allegedly guilty in a betting scandal 4 years back.
