Slow DSL!!?

I have the basic plan for at&t dsl and I've had it for about a month now. My speeds are still the same. I am only getting about 190 kbps (about 25mb/s when downloading files). I tried using my router with my laptop and I still get the same speed. That means it can't be my computer. What I think is that it's my telephone wire that's causing the slow speeds. I am not using the telephone cable the company sent me. If that is not the problem then what is?? It's been a month and I tried calling at&t and they were no help at all.

  1. That IS the speed of DSL.

  2. have you tried reseting the modem?

  3. DSL is slow.  for the basic package that's about average.  If you want good speeds you'll either have to upgrade the DSL or quit wasting time and go with cable,  it's faster and more stable.

  4. There could be any number of problems that cause a poor DSL connection.  Just to make you are using a good speed test go here and test with the location nearest you.

If you still get low numbers you need to call AT&T, ask for a manager and light a fire under him/her.  My friend just went through this last week.  Sometimes you really need to put some heat on companies to get things fixed.  If they won't fix it then switch to cable internet if available in your area (or at least threaten to).  On average it's faster than DSL anyway.

Also go to DSLReports.com for tools and tips on how to get the most out of your connection.

  5. Could be a number of things...even old wireing in your house.  How fast is your service plan supposed to be?

AT&T should be able to help you, ask for a manager or supervisor if they can't or don't want to.

Btw, 190Kbps is about 0.18 Mbps.
