I thought I got a road runner internet connection but really since I got it , its been more of a "road walker" and now as Time warner sells even more connections of this type , it has become a "road limper" . I have a HP laptop with of course tcp , and also WLAN Transport protocol installed. I want to find out if there is any KIND OF COMPRESSION PROTOCOL OUT THERE , that I can download so that the received bytes is 2X or 4X than the outgoing bytes. In other words

--ANY PROTOCOL ( not software ) THAT CAN WORK WITH TCP IP to boos the speed.

-- Any windows setting I can change.

The problem really occurs when I use my VOIP phone on the "road limper" connection. The quality is less than pathetic.

Course its a cable internet connection.

  1. TCP/IP IS the protocol.  All you can do is add some compression on top of it, but realize that any such compression has to be decompressed at the other end and the other end has to know to do it.  This is the equivalent of compressing a file with WinZIP and sending it someplace.   It'll get there faster, but it may not be usable when it does.

    Good luck searching.
