Question:

Slowing/Stopping manual transmition car?

Hello everyone!

I started driving manual transmition for about 3 month now. What I have learned so far when stopping/slowing is that I have to put car in nutural or press clutch when using my breaks!

But, here is my dilemma. How do you stop/slow down in bad weather( snow, ice, heavy rain). If I put car in natural ( pedal or just stick) it will disengage my wheels, and what if one gets caught in the puddle or snow, or ice it will spin at different rate, and it will spin my car, that's my understanding. How do you go down/up the hill if it's covered in snow? how do you make a turn in same conditions? So everyone who can explain this to me in great detail, I would really appreciate it. Please, Please, Please A LOT OF DETAILS> Thank you.

  1. slowing down in snow or ice i would take foot of gas pedal and coast till i got down to a speed where i could shift to a lower gear then let out slowly on clutch and the engine will slow you down then if necessary you can do same thing and shift to a lower gear let out slowly on clutch and engine will slow you down even more--you can practice on dry road till u get the feel of it. only use clutch to shift.   if sitting on ice and you spin when trying to go then shift to a higher gear which will give you less power but better traction if still spin shift to still another higher gear--going down hill use lowest gear that is necessary if  you have to use brakes just tap them lightly
