Slowpitch softball questions?

I really want to play softball for my school next year, so I am using a slowpitch church team as practice.

They put me on second base- I have no clue what to do. tips?

And how do I swing to hit really far like some girls do?

I used to play second base on my fastpitch team.  Catching ground balls will probably be the hardest part for you.  Have you ever played before??  If not, you will definitely want to do some extra work on your own.  Have someone hit you grounders, practice charging TOWARDS the ball, putting your mitt on the ground to catch it.

For hitting, keep your eye on the ball - head down while you swing. turn your hips as you swing also, that is where the power comes from.

Hitting:   Wait until the ball is close to you, transfer most of your weight on your back leg while bringing your bat back with it, and then suddenly shift all your weight and the bat back forward with the bat making contact with the ball.

After you've transferred your weight that far, open your hips and follow through with the bat. Put a lot of straight into your swing :).

2ND base: practice fielding balls, and practice catching pop  fly. If the ball is on the left side of the base, the short stop usually will get it. If the ball is on the right side of the base it is your job to stand on the base.

BUT ALL SCHOOL TEAMS ARE USUALLY FAST PITCH, SO I WOULD RECOMMEND GOING TO A BATTING CAGE.

when u r playing second base don't let the ball get past u.

if u wood like 2 hit the ball really hard, when u go 2 swing step in2 it. if u r a right handed batter then step with ur left foot, and if u r a left handed batter step with ur right foot. also swing like u mean it, if u swing the bat just 2 swing the bat the ball won't go very far. if u swing with power u shood have a nice solid hit. also just 2 get practice in u shood go 2 the batting cages.
