Leonid Slutsky has hailed his side after winning the latest round of Russian Premier League action against Spartak Moscow at Luzhniki stadium
CSKA Moscow head coach, Leonid Slutsky, has hailed his side’s massive win in the local derby against Spartak Moscow, saying that winning against their arch rivals will give his team a lot of confidence.
Ahmed Musa opened the scoring in the 15 minute, while Keisuke Honda's sublime finish in the second-half handed them all three points.
“Today the match was very important because it was a derby. It is hard to imagine how badly the fans want their team to win these games. I think we completely controlled the game and scored fairly after a good combination. We played
a good game and deservedly win.”
“Derby matches do not occur very often in a coaching career. So, to win the match is a great privilege. I think the team has pleased their fans.” The Russian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Slutsky, who looked likely to vacate the managerial position for another candidate this summer after failing to help the Russian outfit in securing UEFA Champions League football, remains confident that his side can extend their
decent run in the games to come.
There is little arguing to the statement that CSKA managed to turn around the tables after their slow start to the season. The Armeytsy recorded six league wins in a row after suffering two defeats in the opening three games of
the ongoing campaign.
Dynamo Moscow are the only Russian club to defeat the Moscow-based club since the start of the championship. Slutsky believes that his side were unlucky to lose the game against the Dinamiki despite playing quality football since
the start of the championship.
And while CSKA had plenty of time to prepare for the derby, Spartak had been a victim of their busy schedule. The Spartachi played the league fixture after locking horns with Celtic FC in the European meeting last Thursday.
Slutsky admitted that his side had plenty of time to prepare for the game. However, he insisted that Spartak does not look too tired despite playing in the European meeting.
