CSKA Moscow will play the UEFA Europa League play-off round return leg against AIK Fotboll on Thursday on the back of a 1-0 win in the first-leg against the Swedish outfit on the away turf.
The Army Men head coach, Leonid Slutsky, has urged his side to win the upcoming European match against the Gnaget, if they are to reach the group stages of the European tournament.
CSKA had a wonderful European campaign last term, having reached the round-of-16 after successful completion of the group stages in Europe. However, they failed to surpass Real Madrid in the pre-quarter finals after losing 5-2
against the Spanish giants on aggregate.
Slutsky insisted that the Moscow-based club are in best shape at the moment after defeating the likes of Anzhi Makhachkala, Mordovia Saransk and Krylia Sovetov Samara lately.
The Armeytsy, who have not conceded a league goal in the last three matches, are at the 4th spot on the league table and trail table-toppers, Zenit St. Petersburg, by a single point.
The former Uralan Elista manager admitted that Keisuke Honda, Alan Dzagoev, Ahmed Musa and Rasmus Elm are fantastic players. However, he urged them to work harder in the training ground if they are to start the return leg on Thursday.
Slutsky revealed that he is expecting Dzagoev, Honda and Elm to play a big part in the upcoming fixture.
“We have quite good prospects for growth in both the team interactions and individual players. I cannot say that Honda, Dzagoev, Elm or Musa shows has shown their maximum capabilities. They have room to grow.” The Russian Cup winner
was quoted as saying.
Slutsky told his side’s defenders to work harder, telling them that they have to deal with opposition’s long balls.
