Leonid Slutsky has urged Mamayev to work harder in order to get more first-team action at the Russian Premier League club and has told about Mark Gonzalez’s recovery
CSKA Moscow head coach, Leonid Slutsky, has backed Pavel Mamayev to come good after falling down the pecking order behind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Keisuke-Honda-c20516 and Zoran Tosic respectively.
The 24-year-old defensive midfielder, who joined the Moscow-based club from Torpedo Moscow back in 2007, has made just 11 starts this season courtesy to the injured midfielders at the manager’s disposal.
Slutsky advised Mamayev to work harder in training and prove himself a better player as compared to the regular starters in the squad.
"Mamayev’s main problem is lack of consistency in his performances. He has failed to fulfil the demands of the modern game. I have repeatedly told him to improve. I do not know the reasons behind his lack of form.”
“It is easier to figure out the reasons after talking to someone but it is still difficult to find out the root cause.”
“I think he is unable to cope (or do not want to deal) with the requirements that were presented to him but he has to improve in order to compete with Honda, Tosic and Dzagoev.”
The Russian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
However, Slutsky was somehow impressed with the player, following Mamayev’s decent performances in the last two league fixtures against Anzhi Makhachkala and Mordovia Saransk respectively.
The former Uralan Elista boss insisted that Mamayev is capable of doing much more and gave example of his spell bound and Jaw dropping performance against the Saransk-based club where he scored the winner.
Speaking on injury-prone midfielder, Mark Gonzalez, Slutsky revealed that the 28-year-old Russian International has been unlucky to remain fit since coming to Luzhniki stadium from Real Betis back in 2009.
There is little arguing to the statement that Gonzalez’s career has been plagued with injuries as the Russian International made just 40 league appearances since making a big move to Moscow.
