Smack Down Main Event – Dolph Ziggler vs. Rey Mysterio
It started when Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston were fighting each other like wild dogs over the controversial Inter Continental title. Smack Down General Manager, Teddy Long appeared on the scene and announced the huge match that the Inter Continental Champion, Dolph Ziggler will fight the ultimate underdog, Rey Mysterio in the main event on Smack Down.
It was an important match for both wrestlers as both wanted to gain some momentum for their big matches at Summer Slam. The fight was a new opportunity for Dolph Ziggler who had the chance to show some fighting skills in a main event. Dolph had become the center of attention in the wrestling world from the day he became the new Inter Continental Champion after defeating Kofi Kingston in a controversial manner.
It was absolutely necessary for Rey Mysterio to win the match as he did not want a defeat just two days before his World Heavy Weight match at Summer Slam. Rey Mysterio also knew that it will look bad on his wrestling profile if he loses a singles match against a less experienced wrestler. Both wrestlers waited for the sound of the ring bell to start the carnage. Dolph Ziggler was quick in his attack as he kicked Rey Mysterio on his abdomen. Dolph then cornered the number one contender for the World Heavy Weight Championship and started delivering kicks to his body.
It was amateurish for Dolph Ziggler as he went for the cover. Perhaps Dolph under estimated the will power of the ultimate underdog, Rey Mysterio who easily kicked out when the referee counted till two. Rey then countered the attack of Ziggler by his effective signature move. Rey grabbed Dolph’s neck with his legs, rolled in the air to give a jerk to the neck and tossed Dolph on the ring floor. Wrestling fans chanted in favour of Rey Mysterio as he dominated the less experienced Inter Continental Champion. That move was followed by a standing drop kick to Dolph Ziggler’s jaw. Ziggler received the kick and fell on the ring floor like a fallen tree.
Rey Mysterio was in complete command of the match as he went for the cover to finish the fight. But Dolph showed some will to fight as he kicked out before the referee could count to three. Dolph Ziggler countered the high flying athletic ability of Rey Mysterio with the will to win the match at all costs. On the other, the official consultant to Smack Down’s General Manager, Vickie Guerrero cheered for her boy friend Dolph Ziggler as he stayed at the receiving end of the match.
Rey Mysterio then delivered a standing drop kick to Dolph Ziggler’s back and Ziggler fell on the second rope. It was an ideal situation for Rey Mysterio to execute his wrestling finisher, called the 619 and finish the match. Just when Rey was preparing himself to execute the finisher, his opponent at Summer Slam, Kane walked into the arena. But Kane was not empty handed as he pushed a casket on the ramp. The casket was a symbol indicating that Kane wanted to bury Rey Mysterio at Summer Slam.
When Kane was pushing the casket, everyone thought that Rey would meet his fate before the Summer Slam. No one expected that Rey Mysterio would fight back as he had just gone through a gruelling fight against Dolph Ziggler. But Rey Mysterio then astonished everyone when he fought back by delivering blows to Kane’s abdomen. One of these blows was so impactful that Kane almost fell in the open casket. It was a sight to watch as Kane struggled to save himself from falling in the casket. After all the carnage in the last few weeks it is safe to say that it will be one explosive match at Summer Slam for the World Heavy Weight title.
