I also just planned on playing the Bill Board Top 100, some hip-hop some pop and R & B to finish the prom. 1. First of all how were you "discovered" if it was DJing parties as you do with your laptop then I would go the way you have been doing it.

When you get more established and can afford to upgrade your equipment I would invest in the upgrade, but that could be very costly to you right now.

I found this while I was browsing the web maybe it could help.

    Resolved Question:

I am DJing a party soon and i want to use a laptop and make a playlist cause its just easier but my brother thinks I should use a cd player.

I'm a DJ at a night club, and I prefer digital music over Cd's for several reasons.

I feel that computerized music is more stable, You don't have to worry about skips, or scratches. CD players are also more prone to skipping when the bass thumps the room.

Transitions can be more automated. Well, playlists will help you plan, and automate the process. This way, you are not sitting there all night, and switching Cd's every three to five minutes.

Computers can also help clean up the signal, and "normalize" the sound. Programs like OTSAV and PCDJ have built in sound processors to help protect your ears... and your equipment.

hope this helps.               good luck and enjoy.
