Question:

Small barn horse boarding?

Just wondering, if you own/board at a small horse barn, with a stall for each (box stalls, double dutch doors) and there is one field that's large enough for them all how much would you ask/pay for boarding?

The property owner would do A.M/P.M feedings and turnout/bringing in for the evening as desired as long as the horse is generally well-behaved and manageable... are hay rations usually put into the cost, and the individual owners purchase their own grain or...? Thanks sorry that's kinda vague... just wondering how much you ask for//pay for boarding at a small place, not a large barn, nothing over 10 horses.

  1. It's up to you how you want to handle it. If you're going to charge just for the stall and basic care, maybe $300 ($10/day), then have them buy their own feed and hay. If you want to include feed in the price, figure out what it will cost you and add it on to that. Remember, you are responsible for liability insurance, property upkeep, utilities, and everything else, so make sure you're charging enough to help you cover your expenses.

  2. about 200-300  per month

  3. Well my barn is large adn a full service barn in New England. Thirty-two stall and some horses outside. Here it is $550. Hope I helped!

  4. I would charge minimum $250.00 a month and add to it from there.  I have a large run in, so no shavings to deal with, which would up it to $300.00 a month minimum for the extra work and cost to me.  I would include hay, and grain and supplements would be at the boarder's expense.  I don't have an indoor arena, or I would ask another $25.00 a month.
