Question:

Small dents on my electric guitar?

There are a few very small dents in my new Fender Stratocaser. The guitar is less than 6 months old. Is there any way to easily get rid of them. The only problem i have with the dents are that even though they're small, they're really sharp and easily visible. Each dent is less than 1 mm. Also the finish is black if you need to know.

  1. i've done that same thing with a few of my guitars and i find that automotive touch up paint works pretty well for guitar patch jobs. you can find it pretty cheap at wall mart.

  2. There's no easy way to get rid of those, unfortunately.  If you're playing your guitar on a regular basis, especially out doing gigs and such, cosmetic issues really aren't things you spend much time and money on.  If they're "sharp" and actually hazardous in terms of possibly cutting on you, then you might want to take it somewhere to be smoothed down a bit.

Touch-up jobs like that are possible, but they're usually pretty expensive (to make it look right, anyway) and just not cost-effective.  Sometimes they even have to sand-down the finish in order to fill it and re-paint it, and that can really compromise the wood if the technician's not careful.

I'd recommend just some regular polishing.  Keeping a good shine on your guitar will often detract from small imperfections.
