Me and my Husban want to move from Canada to D.R, we are trying to figure out a way to make a living and still have time for our family. Does anyone know if you can make enough money by having a small farm, and how? thanks

  1. My wife and I share your dream. Realistically, farming is farming. Do you want a sugar cane op? or a plantation. and what size? I think the way to get a good sized chunk of land would be to organize with a few others interested as production sites can be more expensive, and as the land is foriegn, on top of being agricultural there is little options for financing. I plan to purchase a large plantation and maybe buildsome guest cabins. I'm sure 100+ acres could be shared reasonably.  I have discovered that usually these agricultural properties are easier to find through locals. as when listed with realtors there is generally a 1,000,000.00 dollar price tag attached. I am open to organizing a land share if your interested. As I am sure you witness while in the DR you dont need much to get by, but survial in canada is luxury to many down in the rural farming areas. More so than making money for yourself, you would be supporting / supported by a community of workers and family.

Hope this may have helped, contact me if you want to chat about the DR.

  2. I was born in Dominican Republic 60 years ago and thats all it was then except for tourism.

Farming is hard work but I bet you would have a shot at it.

Please.....take some more time and VISIT first

and perhaps spend several days investigating. You wouldn't want to do something like this from advice from strangers.

Go , have a great time and investigate.

It 'may' OR 'may not' be as you expected.

  3. Before taking any final decision about "farming" or not, you have first to investigate VERY WELL where, how, with who, and so many things more!. So come to the country and learn first how it is to live here... and then take a decision.

Any way if I can help let me know.
