Depends on the theme.

If you living room is plain, white or cream would be good.  If it was earthly or had tribal prints, shade of green would look nice on the wall.  A couple other colors could be blue or maroon/burgundy.

I really like a pale blue or green for what you're explaining. Wish you had a pick so I could see. but I think that a light , baby blue would add a nice touch in contrast with brown.

I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. I think a dark green like "evergreens" (# 6447) would look very cozy & natural - especially with the brown.

Since everything is already a neutral color why not stay with that for the walls. You could paint them a light color like an antique white. Then for the color use wall hangings, pillows, curtains, fun stuff to give it color. This way for example come Christmas you can switch them out for Christmas colors with ease. I did this and love it.

I feel dark colors make a room feel closed in. That is why I feel lighter walls would be best for a small room.
