Small metal plate on side of pool table?

Question

I bought a 7ft by 4ft English pool table (Second hand) a few months ago. On the side of it there is a small metal plate which says “Super league. more than just a game of pool” Why would this be here. Was this table used in some kind of pool league or something?

Great question. I have seen some older English pool tables and snooker tables that had plates which were placed there for putting a cigar on the table before shooting without ruining the table. But yours could be a place name or contest once entered. Check for a book about such things with the Library of Congress' website at loc.gov or look up pool tables of old and see what they have to say. Maybe you own an heirloom or something, never know until you do the research. Good Luck!!!

Yeah it could be owned by someone who worked at a pub and the table was used for pool matches

Sounds like it must have been some form of advertising for a league that existed in the past.  Keep it on there...it is interesting and different.

its the name of the table.

like you get a mondeo by ford you get a super league pool table by whoever makes them.
