  1. about 2 months! : ) it really depends. every rats different.

  2. two months....

  3. sounds like you are talking about a feeder rat...... and it is not worth it to buy a small to grow to a medium!

if you are looking to save money, find a feeder breeder in your area.  small rats should not cost more than $1-2 each, and mediums should only run you $2-3 each.......but pet stores like to hike the price up crazy high.

  4. it depends on the diet u are feeding them. Feed them health foods and add some carrots, apples, and tomatoes and they'll grow fairly quickly...but on an unhealthy diet it could take them 4-6 months to get to be medium sized.

Also it depends on the rats...my rats are eating healthy and they would be inbetween medium and small...yet they are almost a year old

  5. Rats grow very quickly -- all too quickly.  The pet store labels rats as small, medium and large based on their age but rats grow very quickly and unfortunately their lives are all too short.

To answer your question, depending on whether you have a female or a male, your rat will be large by three to four months.  A male rat tends to be more laid back in personality and are often thought of as "lap rats".  They enjoy being held and petted.  Female rats are sometimes quite active and playful compared to the male rats.  Rats are extremely smart and will learn their names and even come when called if trained properly.

I say get a young rat and cherish every day you have with them.

  6. Small, medium and large are designations given by pet stores to help snake owners choose.  It's difficult to say because small and medium are subjective. "medium" sometimes means adult female, and other times means a juvenile around 3 months.  Females are much smaller than males.

If you are looking for a pet, a small rat might be too young to be away from it's mother.  I recommend searching your local rescue rather than a petstore.  As a last note,  rats should also ALWAYS be adopted in pairs or more because they actually tame better and live healthier when they have a companion!

  7. 5 months i say
