Smart Bid pointed to the President’s Cup at Parx Racing to extend his career-best season
For someone as consistent as the older 5-year-old horse, Smart Bid, his win tally has been dry this season as well, just like the last season. However, in his defense it can be said that Smart Bid had only 3 races that season, but this time he had seven
and managed a single win.
Although the derby winning trainer, Graham Motion’s, horse, Smart Bid, has stacked up loads of second and third place finishes along his name, with 4 runner-up finishes and a single third place finish this season, at least he finishes on the money which
is always encouraging.
Trainer Graham Motion has pointed Smart Bid to yet another race this season, where he will contest against 9 other older horses in the $250,000 Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association President’s Cup at Parx Racing on 17 September, 2011.
When it comes to upping his earning dramatically in every race, Smart Bid can easily do that with his consistent finishing habit on the money every now and then.
Smart Bid, being the highest earner in the 1 1/8 miles' event at Parx Racing, is the proof of that, with the career earnings of $816,813.
Smart Bid has kept going dramatically well without winning much of the races this year, but he is having the best season of his career by far while keeping up with the likes of Acclamation and Get Stormy, this year.
The highlight of Smart Bid's season would be his win in the all important Grade 2 Muniz Memorial Handicap at Fair Grounds racecourse on 26 March, 2011.
Smart Bid ran under E Prado, over his preferred distance of 1 1/8 miles and on his preferred surface, grass.
Among horses, ranging from 4 years and above, Smart Bid finally got it right and dismissed Expansion and Moryba in the final few yards.
He covered the distance of 1 1/8 miles in 1 minute and 49.97 seconds.
Smart Bid will be shipped for Parx Racing on the morning of the race, from his nearby home base. He had his final workout for the race, breezing six furlongs in 1 minute and 15 seconds at Fair Hill’s poly track on 10 October.
