I have a degree in biochemistry minor in mathematics and judaic studies.

I wanted to be an optometrist but I can't pass the Optometry Admissions test OAT.

I always got great grades but feel the test is so trival I can't get a good enough score for some reason and I took it 2 times already...

All the schools say get your score up and your in.

Do I now fluctuation to even trying the MCAT?

Any advice? Maybe a new career path..but what?

Thanks

  1. Why would you think the OAT is trivial?

Does the OAT have separate categories that are scored separately, or is it all scored together?  I'm just wondering if there are categories, is there one particular section that is dragging down your overall score and causing you to fail. I'm also wondering if you are taking these tests for admission to an American school, and whether or not English is your first and primary language.  Some of your word usage is awkward, which makes me think English might not be the language you are most comfortable with.  If that's so, perhaps your problems with the OAT are based in language difficulties?

The MCAT is no less relevant to medical school admission than the OAT is to optometry school admission.  Do you also feel the MCAT is trivial?  If you do, then perhaps taking it would be a waste of your time.

There are plenty of study guides available to help you prepare for the OAT, MCAT, or GRE.  You can also get software that helps you review relevant content and asks you questions similar to real test questions.  And there are any number of businesses that sell "exam preparation packages" where you'll go sit in a class for a week or for a few hours, once a week, for 3 or 4 months.

Good luck with whichever you decide.
