ok so earth is experiencing a warm phase, sea levels are high, costal plains are submerged, etc. how would your home be affected by the farther signifigant warning of the atmosphere OR a sudden return to glacial conditions? LONG ANSWERS APPRECIATED ,, thank you :)

  1. If you're talking about a warming phase...meaning global warming.  Then there are a lot of things that could happen.  Obviously one thing would be the drying out of the local landscape, normal areas would eventually become more like deserts (though places like Russia would actually become hospitable).  There would also be an increase in severe weather (hurricanes, storms, and the such) and many species would die off because they couldn't stand the increased heat.  Much of the glaciers would melt to the extent that the water levels could rise significantly and drown many low laying cities.  At the extreme we could all be scorched off the earth...though that would be the extreme.

A sudden return to glacial conditions is extremely unlikely any time in the near future given artificial warming...but something like that would obviously turn places like Russia unlivable and more normal places into places like Russia.  Many species would die because they couldn't handle the change in temperature.  Many seas could become impassable because of more ice forming.  I would imagine that extreme weather could be caused by this also (my research is in global warming, not global cooling...).

An aside, among the scientific community there's not denying that the earth is warming and could continue to warm to a level that's dangerous for humans.  On top of this all scientists agree that this warming is unprecedented.  Most scientists (and nearly all climatologists) agree this is man caused, though I think there are about 40 scientists worldwide that think it's not man caused...though only about 10 of those are climatologists.  Generally scientists from all faiths agree that global warming is man caused and could be  very dangerous.

  2. what grade are you in? i guess I'm not smart

  3. Volcanic Deposit inside of the Earth holds carbon monixide and is contained not-that-far under the surface of the ocean.

A slight increase in warmth (~10%?) could cause these pockets of volcanic ash to release excessive amounts of carbon monixide which would cause between a 30%-40% increase in temperature.

This would cause massive flooding, numerous deaths, etc, and a world wise crisis and would be unexpected.

I apologize that I forget the name of the documentary this is from, and also my statistics may be off, but in essence here...

I believe this calculation was based off of a show on The History or Discovery Channel, and MAY have been the top ten ways the world can be destroyed.

  4. you iver seen the little mermaid   "under the sea" i think thats where we'll be if people stop efffin up the planet

  5. well my home is in central sections of the usa so the coastal flooding becouse rising see level but thetempratures of the sea have not risen natrualy the glashers melt and refreeze but in the stateof global warming it wouls cause more water to be evaporated and there for cause more onland rains making flooding on the inlands as well in the case that the earth were to go back to a artic climate we would adapt to eating fish instead of cows we would resort to what ever it takes becuse life will survive

  6. my head hurts!

  7. Well, if the ice caps keep melting eventually the whole world will be covered in water, in the very distant future, and we wouldn't have homes. If the atmosphere changed so suddenly the world was in a glacier state, pretty much everything would die.

  8. dang im not smart

  9. this is a question about the process of global warming, only it's using the term "warm phrase" because some people don't believe it's happening. if the world returns to glacial conditions, it would be an ice age, and most of the US would be iced over, and all countries parralell to it(europe, asia, etc) would be the same. further warming of the atmosphere would result in the melting of the polar ice caps, and several other drastic changes.
