Smartest moves of the 2010 NFL (National Football League) season (Part 1)
With the end of the 2010 Regular Season just a week away, a look back on the past couple of months offers a lot of different ideas and perspectives about what went right and what went wrong during the season. In this case it’s the best time to look back and see what the best moves of 2010 were. These moves improved the chances of the team performing well and sometimes even keeping the team out of last place. However, only a small number of these moves were actually memorable.
So here we have five of the brightest moves of the past season that changed the outcome for the teams in question.
At the top of the list, probably the best decision of the 2010 season is Philadelphia Eagles head coach, Andy Reid naming Michael Vick as their starting quarterback. No matter what anyone says, there is no proof or relative evidence that this was a bad idea. Reid got rid of Kevin Kolb, who was supposed to be the starter and instead brought in Vick, who should have gotten the job in the off-season. But there is no backing to this being a bad decision. The Eagles are now the top team in the NFC East, for the first time since 2006 and now have the number three seed for the play-offs. Vick has brought Philly back on track, so they don’t even have time to miss Brian Westbrook and Donovan McNabb. Vick finally realized his potential that he should have found earlier in his career. Truthfully, there is only one obstacle between Vick and the league MVP award and that’s the long haired quarterback that is doing even better as New England Patriots quarterback. However, even if Vick does lose his first MVP award to Tom Brady, there is no denying that he has made the best comeback that this league has seen in a long time.
Next up on the list is Randy Moss. Moss actually comes up on the list of dumbest moves in 2010 but that’s a different story. Right now, were focusing on the Patriots’ decision to trade Moss. The deal to trade him to the Minnesota Vikings might have seemed pretty dumb, seeing that defenses are wary when they have to play against him. But without him, head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Brady look even better. This just goes to show you how good they both are at doing their jobs. The Pats have the best record in the NFL as of now, at 13-2. They have the ability to turn a ragtag bunch into one that is leading the NFL in wins and has home field advantage during their first three play-off games.
While the Pats got rid of Moss, the Vikings cut him less than a month after acquiring him. Now with the Tennessee Titans, Moss has probably caught more colds in the frigid winter months than he has passes. The Pats’ deal for Moss got even sweeter, since they gave him away for a third round draft pick.
The third smartest move of the 2010 regular season zeroes in on the Kansas City Chiefs. What did they do? Well, hiring Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel seems like a pretty smart move. Head coach Todd Haley’s second year on the job has gotten a lot easier with them. Weis has pushed quarterback Matt Cassel and wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, while making the Chiefs’ offense the best in the league.
Crennel has taken the underrated Chiefs team and turned them into a strong, regimented unit. Thanks to these two assistants, Haley has a chance at the coach of the year award, with the road ahead looking very good for the team.
The remaining two smartest decisions of the 2010 season will be discussed in the next article. Take a look!
