Smears...i hate them?

its such a disgusting word too!

im really squeamish about down below i hate any tests to do with down below id rather get blood tests!

i wondered are nurses supposed to do smears? cos i tried to get one today and it was so sore she couldnt do it.

ive always had mine done by a nurse but heard they werent supposed to do them.

i went to get a smear and a vaginal swab they only got swab cos they made it so sore and couldnt do it after 3 attempts i dont know why?

i feel bad but i really did try, should i try again with a doctor? and say well at least i got the swab today?

Nobody as far as I am aware likes having smears, they are however a necessary evil.

Many nurses are trained to perform smears these days and do so just as well as doctors.

The most important thing in taking a smear is to give the patient time to relax and to perform the process as gently as possible. Unfortunately when you are very tense in advance of the procedure there is a tendency for the v****a to go in to spasm, vaginismus. This makes insertion of the speculum painful.

Sometimes particular smear takers, doctors or nurses are particularly good at soothing the patient with their voice and this reassurance is enough to make the difference and the smear is painless.

Why not try a woman doctor or the family planning clinic there doctors are nearly always women,  although you dislike having it done it can save your life

u might not like it but it's for ur own good. my aunty got it done i don't know all the details but they found out that something was wrong with her and she had an operation and is ok now. if she hadn't got it done we don't know what would have happened.

Last i went i was actually too small for them and the doctor couldnt get it in without me screaming.

im scared to go back now.

hiya i hate having them done,put it could save your life.so please go and have it done.just close your eyes and think of some think that happened to someone,a friend or family,think of some think that was funny.you will be so wrapped up with your image,that you will forget what they are doing down there.good luck.xx

Having a smear could save your life.Get in there have it done and pray the result is a good one. Forget anything else about it.

Nurses are allowed to do smears.  I always ask for a plastic clamp or to warm the metal ones before insertion.  Hope this helps....

Hi

I had my first swab last thursdsay and I was so dredding it, however I found your going to keep worrying about it until its done. Its a lot better to just get it over & done with, and u will be glad you got it other with and can stop thinking about it.
