How do I keep these two smelling fresh? As of now, they have a sour, stinky odor.

  1. You can put a  cup of vinegar in the bottom of the dishwasher  and run it through a cycle.  You can also run vinegar through the garbage disposal (you don't have  to do it while it's running, just pour in about 1/2 cup and let it sit for a bit, then  rinse).

You could also try doing the  same thing with baking soda.  For the dishwasher, put the baking soda in the detergent cups and sprinkle some on the bottom.  For the garbage disposal, just sprinkle some into the disposal while it is NOT running.

As for the bleach, check the user's manual if you still have it.  It may be alright to use 1/4 to 1/2 cup in a cycle by itself.

Do NOT under any circumstances mix any of these together to use.

  2. running the dish washer twice with dish washing soap works like a charm. Don't use bleach that might do things it's not suppose to. The garbage disposal i usually put a few ice cubes in the garbage disposal. Don't grind it yet. Then put your plug in the drain, fill the sink up with soapy water. Unplug drain turn on the disposal as it grinds the ice it washes itself. :) best of luck!

  3. For the garbage disposal I used either lemon peels or a mixture of equal parts of vinegar and baking soda. The vinegar will make the soda bubble and the smell will be gone. This also is good to open clogged drains. The baking soda can be used to clean the dishwasher as well.

  4. you can buy a freshener that you keep in the dishwasher, they sell them in the supermarket near the dishwasher detergents and rinse aid stuff

  5. I know orange/lemon peels in the disposal will help with that. I've heard running an empty load (no dishes) with a cup of bleach will help the dishwasher.
