Question:

Smelly dye from jeans?

2 weeks ago I bought a pair of Right Fit Jeans (dark) from Lane Bryant, I noticed a nasty smell, I have washed them 7 times, 2 times with vinegar in the wash, and they still smell just as bad as the day I bought them. I don't have a lane bryant anywhere near where I live, I was out of town when I purchased them. I even emailed their customer service and have not heard anything from them on the matter. Does anyone else know what I can do to get the stink out? I don't want to wash them 20 times before I get to wear them once, cause I like the dark look, and they are already starting to fade! UGH I need Help!

  1. How long do you leave your laundry in the washing machine after the machine stops running?

That could be giving your pants a musty/moldy smell.

If it's the dye, try covering it!  Use a good laundry detergent (I like Arm & Hammer), a fabric softener during the rinse cycle (Downy's good), and dryer sheets (I can't for the life of me remember what I use, it's a purple box).

    Also, Febreeze!

But none of those will get the smell out.  Call the phone number you'd call if you were going to order clothing, and tell them what happened.  They'll either connect you to customer service, give you the number for customer service, or you ask for their manager, and send those pants back for a new pair!  Good Luck!

  2. Wow, usually soaking them in vinegar works. But, borax also does.  The instructions are on the side of the box, but I would go double duty.  Soak them over night with 2/3 cup of borax with a cup of vinegar, then launder as usual.
