Question:

Smelly shower drain?

Anytime the shower is used, there is a foul smell that comes from the drain shortly afterward. I have tried bleach, baking soda, vinegar, various drain cleaners and boiling water. I don't know what could be wrong, as I have taken off the drain cap and scrubbed the entire inside clean. Any Advice?

  1. Have you used a bottle brush to scrub deep down below where you can reach? If not, try that. A long, flexible, large bottle brush can often get where a shorter scrubber or your arm can't. You can often get them at winemaking and beermaking supply stores, since they're also used to clean out brewing equipment.

By the way, if you do go to a winemaking place, most winemakers use a very tough pink granular detergent (often called "the pink stuff") that is stronger than regular household detergents. It's great for killing bacteria and molds. Expensive, but for an extreme situation like this it might be a useful purchase.

  2. use "DRANO"
