Smiler Jack in form to steal the Coral On TV Maiden Stayers Trophy – Heat 1 at Romford
The first heat of the Coral On TV Maiden Stayers Trophy will be hosted by Romford over 575 metres flat on Monday, 25th June. Contesting for the £150 prize money are Smiler Jack, Steam Machine, Westmead Jules, Bonamassa Buddy, Fridays Reason and
Stellars Blue.
Standing apart from the line-up with the best credentials is Smiler Jack, Hondo Black’s two-year-old black son out of b***h, Precious Beauty. He knocked into the new season on 5th January in the Primus Telecom Puppy Derby Trial Stakes at Henlow
over 460 metres.
Smiler Jack concluded the race at the miserable sixth ranking while the winner, Be Real, completed the trip in 27.98 seconds.
Three more failures down the line and the trainer, C Mosdall, thinking better of it, drilled his under charge on 30th January at Hove over 515 metres. The two-year-old got done with the task in 30.55 seconds.
The training having served the purpose just right, Smiler Jack won the very next race that was on 3rd February at Romford over 400 metres by reaching the other end of the wire in 24.21 seconds and leading by a short head’s difference.
The 2 to1 favourite, Slippery Rocky, ended fourth.
The two-year-old then monopolised the RD Racing Trafalgar Cup – Heat 3 on 18th February at Oxford over 450 metres by making it to the other end of the wire in 27.17 seconds. He led the runner up of the race, Guinness Dusty, by a length.
The possibility of bagging a hat trick dissolved in the fifth position that Smiler Jack scored in the RD Racing Trafalgar Puppy Cup Final on 25th February at Oxford over 450 metres.
It took Guinness Dusty 26.87 seconds to settle the track distance.
From 12th May to 16th June, he raced five times and was drilled twice in between. Only twice through these starts he was able to pull out decently with a second score otherwise the rest were failures.
On 12th June it took the two-year-old 35.85 seconds to race over 575 metres at Romford during a drill. The race right after that, on 16th June, saw him settling as the runner up of the 9 O’Clock From Wimbledon at Wimbledon over 480
metres.
Having raced just once after the training enhances Smiler Jack’s chances of claiming the race tonight.
