Smith Not Worried About Murray Denting Great Britain
Leon Smith, Great Britain Davis Cup captain, says he is not worried about Andy Murray's fluctuating presence having an impact on the team.
Murray has been able to pick and choose the matches and events that he plays for Great Britain due to the fact that he is the best player in Great Britain and one of the best in the world.
There have been worries emerging from various sources that this could dent the morale of the British camp ahead of some tough matches against big countries as Great Britain looks to make big improvements in the competition.
The skipper has already said that Murray will walk straight back into the team and this should be seen as an asset and not a burden. There is no doubt at all that Great Britain stand a much better chance of winning but it's important to consider the effect that Murray could have on the side.
Negatives
There is a slight chance that Murray coming in and out of the side as he chooses could dent morale. This is because there are some British players who work very hard on getting into the team in the first place. It is not going to do them a world of good if they are dropped because the Scot chooses that he wants to play in a certain competition against a certain country.
This sort of Murray activity could also serve to alienate the fans and members of the team. This is because they could view Murray as not taking Great Britain Davis Cup commitments seriously enough. Therefore, it is only natural that they get a little bit annoyed or downbeat when the Murray circus arrives at the camp of the British team.
Some would even question if Murray is needed at the moment because there is a good team spirit among the British players and they seem to be playing well. As Smith said himself: "It's a new experience for all of us. We'd love to have Andy here, and Andy will be delighted that the team's won as well, but four guys came down here and we were good enough to win."
Positives
The positives of having an Andy Murray in the Great Britain Davis Cup team dominate any negatives that anyone can choose to think of. The point is that Murray is ranked as the fourth best player in the world for a reason and if he can get himself up for playing for Great Britain then he will win any match that he plays in.
There is no question that Murray has the game and the quality to do well in Davis Cup tennis but his hectic personal schedule is something that has stopped him from playing as much as he would maybe have liked.
Smith added: "It's no problem. When he wants to come back in the team of course we'll love that because he's one of the world's best players and any team in the world would love to have Andy Murray in it."
Betting Advice
The British Davis Cup team seems to have a lot going for it at the moment and there is plenty of optimism and a vibrant feeling among the current camp. Although it's important to consider the negatives of Murray coming back into the side, if he does then you can put all of your money on him to win any match he plays for Great Britain.
He is far too good a player to be troubled by the quality on offer in many of the British Davis Cup games and he would make the team an odds on certainty with his presence.
