Smith bids farewell to Pipe
In an interesting encounter of darts that took place at the Spanish Darts Classic Players Championship Michael Smith was able to successfully launch his opening campaign after defeating Justin Pipe by 6-3.
The event which took place at Benidorm's Melia Hotel, witnessed the perfect way in which Smith was able to avenge an earlier defeat he faced against Pipe.
The 21-year-old darts player has earlier proved his dart firing skills at the UK Open Qualifier, held a year ago.
Smith was able to open his bank account with a 6000 pound cheque that he gained after winning the event.
In the match Smith, after getting hold of the first two out of the three legs, was also able to claim the fourth leg to his name.
He hit 180 with a 130 checkout. Pipe, on the other hand, missed a dart to score double 18 which could have easily levelled the scores.
However, it was Smith’s day overall and after knocking out players like Jose Luis Torres, Paul Nicholson, Peter Wright and St Helens rival Dave Chisnall, he was all set and prepared to win over his next opponent as conveniently as possible.
Apart from other competitors, it is important to mention that Smith was also able to knock out James Wade in his series of victories.
Wade, with the help of 161 finishes, gained a 3-2 lead. However, Smith proved to be a comeback king for the day and was able to win four out of the next five legs of the game.
Nicknamed as the ‘Bully Boy’ of darts, Smith has really lived up to the title that has been provided to him.
Commenting on the recent consecutive successes he gained, Smith said, "It means so much for me to win this".
"I was so disappointed after the World Championship that I didn't want to pick up my darts again, but my Dad made me watch the game four or five times and after a week off I got back on the board,” he further asdded.
It is important to mention here that Smith had to face defeat at the World Championship event at the hands of Co Stompe.
It was precisely because of his desire to win that he broke down into tears after making his final triumphant move on the dartboard.
