South African skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 was on Sunday declared completely fit to take the field on the fourth day of the ongoing second Test against England, underway at Leeds, Headingley, since Thursday, August 2, 2012.
The 31-year-old left-handed top-order batsman had injured his left knee while fielding at the backward-point boundary, late on day three. The injury forced the South African skipper to leave the field for the rest of the day.
Smith struggled to get to his feet and was helped by the team physiotherapist Brandon Jackson to limp off the field. The left-hander did not undergo any scans, rather he had his knee strapped up for a while, after passing a fitness test.
"He said he felt something in his knee," the South African bowling coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Anthony-Donald-c43680 had earlier said of Smith’s injury. "He will be assessed overnight."
Smith who had scored a phenomenal century in the previous Test, which the Proteas had won by an innings and 12 runs, scored 52 runs in the first innings of the ongoing second Test.

Kallis and Smith are not the only two injury concerns for the tourists. Their first innings centurion, opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Petersen-c1028 is also nursing a hamstring injury, which he had sustained during his century knock on Friday. He will not take field again
in the ongoing match, however he will be available to bat late in the second innings, if required.
Petersen, who had not scored a half century on the tour going into the Leeds Test, played a meticulous knock of 182 runs to help the tourists score 419 runs in their first innings.
