Having failed to regain the No. 1 Test ranking against England in the 2009/10 winter, is it really any surprise that South Africa captain Graeme Smith is at least publicly playing down the importance of taking back top spot from India when the teams do battle in two Tests on the subcontinent this February?
“The No. 1 ranking is not really an issue for us. India have been playing good cricket, that is why they are ranked No. 1. We will concentrate on our own game,” Smith told the media ahead of the series.
