Okay so my car needs a smog check. So what exactly do I do. So do I go to the Smog Check place and have it done. Then do I mail the results to the DMV along with the renewal fees or do I take the results to the DMV myself

P.S. I haven't done the smog check yet but will do it sometime today

  1. take your car to the smog place with the letter that the DMV sent you that you need to have it smogged.  on that letter is a bar code that the smog place scans and needs to do the test.  the place will do the test and the results are automatically sent to the DMV. If you pass all you have to do is pay your registration fees and your done.  also as a tip to pass the smog test drive the car around for 30 min to an hour. this burns all the stuff in the engine and allows it to run cleaner.  it is very hard for a car over 4 years old to just drive to the place and pass smog. the engine needs to be properly warmed.

  2. take it to the smog check place they all are operated by the dmv. So all the rules are the same. the big idea.

your car has to be safe not just for yourself but for other drivers also

your car cannot pollute too much.

if you pass both you get a sticker on your windshield that is issued by the dmv. If you fail either part of the test, you have 15 days to get it fixed. That is the law

p.s. if you actually fail, get it fixed, do not let a nucklehead tell you he can give you a sticker for a little bit more cash, that is against the law.
