Question:

Smog test for my car?

I have a model 2000 car. It is time for my California smog test. There used to be a time when there were testing places that would advertise pass or don't pay. Now it seems that most of the places are test stations only and do not say anything about pass or do not pay. Am I better off going to a test only station that does not do repairs or should I go to a place that does testing and repairing? What is the going rate now for the test?

  1. you a ask "How many 8 year old cars fail the test?"

I will say the is no answer for it ...

but you wanna know ,i will say 20 % to 25 % Vehicle fail (2000 vehicles)

I will suggest you do vehicle turn up (service engine oil change, replace air filter & gsa filter, spake plug...) and before go test SMOG TEST,warm up your vehicle

bring you vehicle to you "close friends" ;"dealer" ;"the shop service you vehicle you always trust" because some of shop they just advertise on newspaper or AD paer..for $40, or $50 and free Re-*test 1 time if you fail, they will do something on you vehicle, you will not gotn be PASS for sure(Fail)

for they to fail you vehicle is very easy...just divering you vehicle not correct speed.or take out any vacuum hose.

Final ,SMOG TEST is for California Clean Air...for everybody living in Cal, and also Test show you how you care your vehicle,if fail please do service you vehicle.

  2. I do not know the answers to the questions about the going rate now for a test nor where you are better off going to.

However, in regards to how many 8 year old cars fail this test, it will depend on a very simple factor. How well or how poorly was this vehicle taken care of. Prior to going, I would suggest to get it tuned, and change the oil (especially if its coming close to the service interval or if its overdue).

  3. A 2000 car should probably pass. My 2000 Honda CRV did very well in its test. Don't worry about it and just do any station. Often Test only stations cost a little more, so shop around. Oh, and I paid about $45 for my test only. I know you can get them as cheap as $30. All of this was done in California.
