when making a home made smoke bomb (salt peter, sugar, organic powdered dye) what brand or type of dye should i use and wheere can i buy it? (im looking for specific stores)

  1. White Smoke Recipe

    Potassium nitrate - 4 parts

    Charcoal - 5 parts

    Sulfur - 10 parts

    Wood dust - 3 parts

    Red Smoke Recipe

    Potassium chlorate - 15%

    para-nitroaniline red - 65%

    Lactose - 20%

    Green Smoke Recipe

    Synthetic indigo - 26%

    Auramine (yellow) - 15%

    Potassium chlorate - 35%

    Lactose - 26%

    I just asked my dad who has a doctorate in chemistry ...thanks dad!

    He said that you could also use pulverized crayon or the dye they sell for candles at craft stores(Like Michael's).

    I found two links you can use to buy supplies or dye.

    (BTW this gets super expensive, so it might just be cheaper to buy smokebombs premade!)


  2. Before you go making a smoke bomb with para-nitroaniline, you might want to consider that it is very toxic and in general not something you want to fool around with.

    There is also "equivocal evidence" (translation, it might) that p-nitroaniline causes cancer in mice.
