Question:

Smoke Detector problems

My hardwired smoke detector, about 5 years old, beeps (loudly!) about every 10 seconds when there's a power outage. Needless to say, when the outage occurs at night, sleep is impossible! Is there any way to fix this while maintaining use of my detector?

  1. Change to a new battery, smoke alarms also beep if there is no power at the unit. Have a close look and see if you have a green light lit up, if not, there may be no power.

  2. If it is Hardwired but beeping when the power is out, it must have a battery   backup.  It could be beeping because the battery is low.  Try replacing the battery backup.

  3. Sounds like your battery is flat, they have a standby battery to take over when power is off, renew the battery.
